Become a Volunteer

Thinking of joining the First Night Saranac Lake support team? The event is driven by a crew of wonderful volunteers; we hope you'll consider joining us. If you have questions that are not answered here email us through the form below. Please include your name, email address question(s) and we'll get back to you.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO DO? There will be a short Volunteer Orientation before the event begins when we'll share the basics of First Night, give you a printed volunteer guide, answer any questions you have and allow you an opportunity to meet your Venue Manager.

HOW LONG AM I COMMITING TO WORK? You are asked to trade two hours of your time in exchange for a button that allows you to enjoy the rest of the festivities.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE EVENING? Choose to attend the parade and opening ceremonies, visit any of the nine performance venues, food sites, the fireworks at midnight...plenty to do between 5:30 when everything kicks off until the finale of the fireworks. Consult the schedule of performances to assist you in your selection of assigment and/or venue.

WHAT MIGHT WE ASK YOU TO DO? There are many tasks that our volunteers tend to. All volunteers work on a team of two to six people at each venue for each shift. Each venue has Venue Manager who you will meet at Volunteer Orientation.

Site Assistants help by making sure artists have what they need, check &/or sell buttons, count audience members, encourage folks to complete feedback forms, move chairs, check rest room supplies, answer questions, announce the performers at the start of each set, crowd control, communicate with First Night Office as needed and other tasks as needed.

Tech Crew If you have skills with sound systems (set-up, tear down, stage support, mixing), lighting, photography, video taping, etc. we'd like very much to hear from you.

First Night Base Camp & Merchandise Sales Staff Good with multi-tasking, ready to greet the public and answer questions, give directions, sell buttons, tend the artists' merchandise store table? This is the assignment for you!

Floater We need folks who are able to move from venue to venue picking up and delivering things, checking on volunteer needs, monitoring street and road conditions and the many unseen support tasks that keep everything flowing smoothly.

Venue Managers oversee the performance sites. This is a special assignment that requires extra commitment.

Ready to sign up? Thank you! We couldn't do it without you!
